Texans will keep head coach Kubiak through 2012

With disappointment he saw the Houston Texans miss the playoffs again last season; with admiration he saw the New Orleans Saints won their first Super Bowl victory last Sunday; and with confidence, Texans owner Bob McNair head coach Gary Kubiak will lead the team to a Super Bowl victory soon. With that confident, he gave the coach a contract extension Wednesday.

Under Kubiak, the Texans finished the 2009 season 9-7, the teams’ first winning record for the last eight years. As McNair said, the team has shown “a lot of progress” under Kubiak, so he wanted to maintain continuity by keeping him in charge.

“We have a foundation in place,” McNair said. “We don’t have to go out and establish the foundation, which is what we’ve been doing the last eight years. We’ve got some outstanding players, and we just have to keep building on that. In evaluating where we were and looking at our coaching situation, I believe Gary can take us to the Super Bowl.”

When 48-year-old Kubiak took over the coaching job in Houston, the Texans just came out of a 2-14 2006 season. After signing a four-year contract with the Texans, Kubiak improved the team to 8-8 in his first coaching season and kept the record for the next season. For the last season, the Texans improved again to 9-7. No wonder the team owner trusts him so much. He just deserves respect from all those loving Texans jerseys.

Texans WR Johnson bruised chest in win over 49ers

The Houston Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson unfortunately bruised his chest in the team’s 24-21 win over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday. He had to leave the field and was taken to hospital to be examined.

Coach Gary Kubiak said the team was concerned as the receiver could not play through the end. Johnson was shaken up on a play in the fourth quarter, but he remained on the field on his hands and knees for a few minutes before walking to the sideline.

A few minutes later, however, he returned to field for one play in his Texans jersey. The team eventually held him out of the next series. Then the receiver was escorted off the field after talking with Houston’s medical staff for several minutes.

Texans CB Robinson was fined $25,000 for conduct detrimental to the team

For wearing a pair of “pay me Rick” shoes during Sunday’s game, the Houston Texans cornerback Dunta Robinson will have to pay $25,000 to the team, because his conduct was considered to be “detrimental” to the team.

The shoes targeted general manager Rick Smith, who did not give Robinson a long-term contract despite signing his franchise tender more than a week ago. As starter in Sunday’s game against the New York Jets, Robinson failed to lead the team to a victory, partly because he had less than a week of practice before the game.

Robinson told reporters that he accepted the punishment and would pay the fine, but he would like to have talk with Smith about donating the money to a Boys and Girls Club or a needy family.
